calling up neptune’s daughter

Music. It can completely change the way my day is going. Last Friday, before the weather turned windy and I got all needy, was one of the greatest days ever because I had a great song playing in my head all day. It’s Painting by Chagall, by The Weepies. “Sometimes rain that’s needed falls.” I love that. I love the idea that sometimes you just get what you need. The rain falls. The test turns out well. The sickness ends. The boy calls. Sometimes rain that’s needed falls.

Today a new song has played its way into my heart. I’ve spent the morning singing the chorus from Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol: “If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world?” It was playing at the end of the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy, and I’ve been listening to it off and on since then. Seriously, it’s lyrical perfection:

“All that I am, all that I ever was

Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where, confused about how as well

Just know that these things will never change for us at all.

If I lay here, if I just lay here

Would you lie with me, and just forget the world?”

Love the song, love the show...except wouldn't it be better if it was meant for the wife, not the intern?!
